Wanna talk? AJEJEJEJE XD

IS TEXTING RUINING YOUR KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE?

English had always been my second language. I can't say I know so much knowledge about it but instead, I can put it this way -- I am fluent in both speaking and writing in English. No wonder I can easily express myself in English like what I am doing at this moment. As we all know, language is associated with communication. We cannot communicate with people if languages don't exist. Nowadays, technology has been entrenched in the idea of this generation that the two are nearly inseparable. Technology enables us to do various things, including communicating with other people.

Most teenagers engage their selves in communicating through TEXTING. Almost all teenage population in this world, I guess, have their own cell phones and using it is always a part of their everyday lives except for me. Although I don't have my very own cellphone, I still can communicate with other people through some social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, etc. So for me, it's a big NO. Communicating with other people never ruined my knowledge about the English language and it never will.

Do you remember the time when most teenagers call themselves JEJEMON?...which used to grind my gears 'cause every word I see is an EYESORE! They usually type like this: Eow phowszx! I know it's not fully used in English language but still I think it affects a lot since some words in English are getting involved which means there is surely going to be wrong spelling, punctuation, capitalization and others. I think laziness is another reason for one's knowledge about the English language. I've noticed before that people usually do short cuts when they text. Letters which they think aren't necessary are being omitted, thus affects the way how they spell words. Sometimes, in most native speakers of the English language, they come up with informal contarctions like gonna, wanna, shoulda and many more. They get used to these things eventually so English language, is already basically ruined.

As I have said earlier, communicating never ruined my knowledge about the English language but...it does affects one thing. I OFTEN DON'T PUT PROPER PUNCTUATIONS! Not in chatting, tweeting, neither in posting statuses. Maybe I'm one of those lazy people but I have reason behind this. I also include emoticons when I chat for it adds more life to the conversations. Never it happened that I didn't put "XD"s and "LOL"s in my messages. WHY? It's just that communicating people using these social networking sites, in my opinion, couldn't be that formal but it depends on the people who you're talking with, of course. So in short, it doesn't fully ruin my knowledge about this second language of mine since I only talk t my friends and family most of the time.

What we should be all pointing out is that LANGUAGE is a system of communication which is very essential to us, humans. It should always be used properly for the sake of our knowledge in a specific language to be enriched, not ruined.
