From Day One until the Rest of my Life

“A mother’s love for her child is like nothing else in this world. It knows no law, no pity, it dares all things, and crushes down remorselessly all that stand in its path.”
                                                                          -Agatha Christie

Usually, when a person hears the word “hero”, it would mean a major character in a book or a movie with jaw-dropping skills and powers together with unique costumes or sometimes capes, and even unusual and never before seen appearances. If that’s the case, my hero would be Thor, the God of lightning from the Norse mythology. Sounds epic doesn't it? When I was young I came to think that heroes are only the ones who fly and do unbelievable things with their powers, but not until today. As we all know, heroes like who we watch in movies do not exist but there is one hero that I believe, EXISTS.

Being a mother is basically the hardest job of all. It is no joke! You should be responsible of everything. And in our family, it is definitely tough for my mother since I have three sisters. As the youngest one of all, I wasn't that easy to take care of. I wasn't the type of a daughter who follows immediately when my parents tell me to do something. In short, I was hard headed and disobedient, and my mom knows it. When I was young, she told me that when I do something bad, the angels in heaven tally them to have a record. It isn't true but it worked for me, but not until I grew up. They say teenage years are the best because that’s time when you’ll become mature and be socially active. That is also the time I often choose being with my friends than my family. With that, I know I’m not the only one. However, the more I grow, the more I realize that my mother is the best friend I’ll ever have. In fact I just had the greatest summer with her. That way I slowly knew who she really was, like my real best friend.

Anyhow, it’s neither easy nor simple to grow up. Sometimes, you’ll be able to do something you never expected you’ll do. To be honest, I am a troublesome person. I make mistakes easily. I would even think that I have more downs than ups. Someone would tell me it’s part of growing up. Now I've realized why it’s called “part.” It was indeed because growing up wouldn't be complete without my mother who will be the only one to get mad at me and love me at the same time, despite the fact that I am a stubborn one.

But how my mother handles these situations proves that she is indeed, a superhero. She has always treated me right. She is like no other. She gave me life, nurtured me, taught me the best things in life, fought for me, shouted at me, kissed me but most importantly, gave me an unconditional love. My mother’s love is what makes me who I am today. She can bring out the best in me. And that only means one thing --- she has the power to portray her role as a mother not only to me, but for everyone in our family. I hope I have the same heart as her that knows how to forgive and understand. Words aren't enough to describe how much I love her and just how important she is to me. No matter what we go through, no matter how much we argue, I know she will always be there for me.

My nanay, she’s more than a hero to me. She has multiple powers that nobody else has, to think that the heroes we usually watch have only one. She's my strength, my teacher, my idol, my everything. She is my world, my SUPERHERO from day one until the rest of my life.
Sorry for all these crazy photos, but this is the real me and my hero!
